Welcome to The Museum Edit, where we delve into the unique artistry and craftsmanship behind the standout pieces of our latest collection. Today, we spotlight three extraordinary creations: the Time Will Tell Totem, the Mind the Eye Vessel, and the Now You See Me Statue. These artifacts are not just decor items; they are one-of-a-kind masterpieces, each worthy of a place in a museum gallery. Let's explore the stories behind these pieces and how they can transform any space into a modern yet eccentric haven.
Time Will Tell Totem
The Time Will Tell Totem stands as a testament to the intricate relationship between time and art. This piece is a vertical marvel, combining layers of materials and textures to symbolize the passage of time and the stories it carries.
Inspired by sculptors, I find myself attracted to totems. Deciding to educate myself in the field of art, exploring uncharted mediums, and reminiscing on my days in design school building architectural models, I pulled out my power tools and constructed this totem without a sketch or any idea how it would look. I simply used my intuition to create a balanced piece of art.
'Time Will Tell' is a totem made of wood remnants in the likeness of a complex sundial. Painted in a matte ink blue color, a recurring theme throughout this collection, the totem represents wakefulness and daydreaming. Its vertical members are marked by horizontal slats and recessed scores, referencing time in quarters and hours.
The semi-circle elements resemble the geometry of light sources, each finished in gold leaf to reflect ambient light. The negative fields signify the incompleteness of obtaining sleep or the time we spend away.
This totem not only captivates with its visual appeal but also brings a sense of history and depth to any environment. Its presence can elevate a residential space, making it feel like a curated gallery. In a boutique commercial setting, the Time Will Tell Totem becomes a conversation starter, drawing visitors into its narrative of time.
Mind the Eye Vessel
The Mind the Eye Vessel is an exploration of perception and perspective. This sculptural piece features an intricate design that invites viewers to see beyond the surface, symbolizing the deeper layers of our thoughts and observations.
'Mind the Eye' is a reversible clay vessel with an eye-shaped top, finished in gold leaf and incorporating an evil/lucky eye motif as a personal amulet for protection and security. Reflecting on the things that troubled me while creating this collection, I thought about the evil/lucky eye and its significance, as well as its popularity as a trend.
Although the eye is typically painted in colors of white, black, and blue, I decided to finish the entire piece in gold leaf. The brass and gold colors in this collection signify moments of clarity, enlightenment, and the value of time. Besides, a piece this size deserves a lot of attention, and this color does the trick.
With its modern yet enigmatic design, the Mind the Eye Vessel can transform any room into an artistic retreat. Whether placed in a contemporary living room or a sophisticated office, this piece adds a touch of intrigue and elegance, creating a museum-like atmosphere that encourages contemplation and conversation.
Now You See Me Vessel
The Now You See Me Vessel, a unique and thought-provoking piece of art handcrafted from air-dried clay is a playful yet profound piece that explores visibility and presence.
The statue resembles the figure you see in the original Nocturnal collection paintings, but with a twist—its face is a magnifying glass, symbolizing introspection and hidden truths. This one-of-a-kind statue blends serious art with a touch of humor and light.
In a residential setting, it can become the focal point of a room, drawing eyes and sparking conversation. In a commercial environment, it adds a layer of sophistication and modernity, inviting guests to engage with the space in new ways.
Creating a Museum-Like Atmosphere
Introducing any of these artifacts into your interior environment is more than just an aesthetic choice; it's about creating a space that resonates with the sophistication and intrigue of a museum gallery. Here's how you can achieve this:
1. Curate Thoughtfully: Just as a museum curator selects pieces to tell a story, choose artifacts that speak to your personal narrative or the theme of your space.
2. Play with Lighting: Use lighting to highlight the intricate details of each piece. Spotlights or strategically placed lamps can cast interesting shadows and enhance the visual impact.
3. Create a Focal Point: Make your chosen artifact the centerpiece of the room. Arrange furniture and decor around it to draw attention and create a cohesive look.
4. Incorporate Texture: Mix different textures and materials in your decor to complement the artifact. This adds depth and richness to the overall aesthetic.
5. Keep It Personal: Museums often feature personal touches or stories behind each exhibit. Add elements that reflect your journey, making the space uniquely yours.
The Time Will Tell Totem, Mind the Eye Vessel, and Now You See Me Vessel are more than just decor items—they are statements, each with a story to tell. By incorporating these pieces into your space, you create an environment that is not only visually stunning but also rich with meaning and artistic value. Whether in a residential or boutique commercial setting, these artifacts bring a museum-like sophistication and modern eccentricity that transform any space into a living gallery.
The cobalt blue and gold brings back my childhood with marching bands and stomping majorettes. Love the NOW you See Me sculpture for it's unique concept.
